The following information will prepare you for your training with our school. Our professional staff of Black Belt instructors, along with their assistants, are here to guide you towards greater self confidence and discipline as you improve your balance, coordination, flexibility and reactions. Our program gradually guides you to increased confidence, mental discipline, self defense capabilities and more! It is a fun and positive way to get in shape and stay that way!

• Self Defense:  You will learn effective and powerful self defense skills as well as the fundamental attitudes appropriate to these skills. The basic attitude of a successful Martial Artist (and a successful person) are respect, discipline, goal setting and effective leadership.
• Respect:  Through Martial Arts' philosophy and customs, the student learns to build superior relationships based on respect and friendship.
• Discipline:  Through Martial Arts' training, the student develops self motivation and perserverance.
• Goal Setting:  Goal setting is a necessary road map for a successful life. It was once said, "On the road towards Black Belt the student gains the experience and feeling of success by earning progressively higher belt ranks."
• Leadership:  As you work with your fellow students, you will develop communication skills. At the level of Red Belt you will be able to participate in our Leadership Training Program.

• Our Goal  for every student is to help them earn their Black Belt-not only in Martial Arts, but in life. By working toward this goal we create an environment in which the student develops confidence through accomplishing high, but realistic and attainable goals.
• Sher Khan Karate  provides avenues of learning to satisfy any interest. From the development of self-defense abilities and physical conditioning to participation in the sport aspect of karate.

• Yellow Belt   This level introduces you to the fundamentals and will help you achieve better physical conditioning. Sparring is introduced at this level for the purpose of condition. It takes the average person about four months to earn a Yellow Belt.
• Orange Belt   You begin to create speed and power in your kicks and punches. You learn to block and counter-punch with amazing effectiveness. It takes about eight months to earn a Orange Belt.
• Purple Belt   At this level you begin to learn free-style sparring. You will notice that your confidence has increased by this time. You are now well on your way to Black Belt. The Purple Belt is reached about one year from beginning Martial Arts.
• Blue Belt   At this belt level you begin to feel comfortable with free-sparring. Your skills will be sharpened from intermediate to an advanced level of training. Blue Belt is reached after about one and a half years of training.
• Green Belt   Your posture and body stances will express your new-found confidence. In fact, both you hands and feet will become effective weapons. It takes about 24 months of training to earn a Green Belt.
• Brown Belt   As a Brown Belt your emotional and mental outlook is deepened and you become even more confident. You develop expertise in the Martial Arts. The average duration to Brown Belt is three years.
• Black Belt   Finally, your goal of Black Belt is achieved. But this is only the beginning of the life-long benefits of Black Belt Excellence! You have quick reflexes, superb instincts, amazing speed and devastating power. Now, the journey along the Black Belt road opens a vast and exciting new world of learning and adventures! An average person can earn a Black Belt within three to five years of training.

Sher Khan Karate's "Accent on Black Belt Excellence" makes a difference in children and adults by helping to develop the following qualities:

• Respect

  In order to get respect you must first give respect. By respecting yourself & those around you, you will earn the respect of others. Respect must be earned. Respect of ones' self & others gives a sense of worth. Respect will also lead to the deeper development of appreciation for parents, teachers & others.

• Self Discipline

  The key to success is self discipline. Just knowing what to do in not enough - it's doing what you know is right that counts. Everybody knows the difference between right and wrong. Winners do the right thing. Self Discipline teaches focus, Self-Motivation and the inner desire to do what is right. This provides peak performance at school or at work.   Sher Khan Karate helps build the lifelong self-discipline that builds good habits.

• Courage

  True courage is not fearlessness, but overcoming fear. Courage is being able to stand for what you know is right. Courage is the ability to say "NO!" to negative peer pressure. It is the quality of mind or spirit that enable a person to face difficulty, danger & fear. When fear is reduced, confidence is instilled & success becomesmore frequent.

• Self Control

  Losing control of your emotions is a sign of weakness. At that point, your opponent has an ally. Nobody "makes you mad," you decide to "become mad." Our philosophy and methods of teaching can show you a way out of this situation.

• Confidence

  By improving self-esteem, one becomes more self reliant. Successful accomplishments are a key factor to becoming more confident. At Sher Khan Karate,  we build confidence by teaching increasingly complex skills & reward short-term achievements.

• Inner Strength

  Is the power to say "NO" to drugs, negative peer pressure & to do what is right. Strength is Empowerment!

• Patience

  To overcome difficult tasks or people. A power virtue which can help overcome difficult tasks or people. We believe patience allows for rational decisions and helps the student handle life's challenges.

• Physical Fitness

  To excel at other sports. To be healthy and physically fit will help the student excel at other sports & activities. When you are in peak condition, you are able to enjoy all life has to offer.

• Concentration

  For peak performance in school or work. Younger students especially will benefit from this special aspect of the training offered at Sher Khan Karate. With concentration follows understanding and success follows understanding.

• Self Defense

  To effectively take care of one's self. This is probably one of the most powerful aspects of the "Martial Arts Experience." At Sher Khan Karate you will start to learn the very basics of self defense. As you progress through the ranks you will find more and more weapons are being stored in your "mental arsenal." By the time you have reached black belt, you will be prepared for almost anything anyone could ever try to do to you.
