So what do our STAR award patches mean?
Most of our students uniforms should have proudly displayed on the left sleeve a STAR patch or two.( the left sleeve is the traditional place reserved on the uniform for the stars, but some students have so many that they cover their uniforms with them as well. View our patch placement guide.)
A Gold Star represents "Academic Achievement." Sher Khan Karate rewards those Students who earn a "B" average with one gold star each report card and for those students who earn all A's (or the equivelent thereof), will be rewarded with two gold stars (or one LARGE gold star), for each report card.
A Green Star represents "Community Service." Any student who participates in a community service event will be awarded one green star.
A Metallic Gold or Silver Star represents "Honorable actions and personal ideals." Sher Khan Karate encourages honor in it's students. This STAR cannot be asked for, it will be awarded by an instructor if a honorable action is observed personally, or is made known to the instructor by another instructor or parent. There will be a limit placed on duplicate honorable actions. Holding the door for someone with a heavy package is honorable, standing there all day holding doors is over doing it.
A White/Dark Blue Star represents "Reading Achievement." For each 10 age-appropriate books read, a student will be awarded one white/dark blue star. Click here to submit your reading list online. Or you can obtain a list from the school.
A Red Star represents "Service and Spirit" within our school. For any of the following, a student will be awarded one red star.
The S.T.O.R.M Team is a select group of student leaders in the school. S.T.O.R.M stands for Student Team Of Role Models
S.T.O.R.M patches and pants may be earned by students who are 10 years or older, or are brown belts and above - with the approval of the instructor they intend to help, and are interested in helping out in a lower ranking class. To earn the S.T.O.R.M patch and pants you must have attended several instructional classes by one of the head instructors, in order to show you how to help in class. You must have helped with at least 25 lower ranking classes, AND you must constantly demonstrate the level of excellence required for all members of our staff. Those students wearing the S.T.O.R.M patch, or the white pants with the red stripes down the side, have been through this already and should be recognized for their hard work.
